Elkins

The charming mountain town of Elkins in Randolph County is the perfect spot to stroll this weekend. Catch amber and cherry-colored trees lining the streets – the perfect backdrop for the Mountain State Forest Festival. Abundant with live musical acts, food vendors, crafts, hands-on demonstrations, parades and more, this event celebrates the Mountain State magic.

Another way to view the stunning fall foliage is by hopping on a steam-powered locomotive at Durbin and Greenbrier Valley Railroad, which traverses some of the most rugged corners of the Appalachian Mountains.

Waterfalls

High Falls of the Cheat

Winding through Shavers Mountain in the Potomac Highlands off Route 44, the High Falls of the Cheat is one of the most distinctive waterfalls on the West Virginia Waterfall Trail. The falls are even more vibrant now, with the beautiful shades of yellow, orange and red painting the surrounding trees. For those up for a challenge, hike the High Falls Trail for 10+ miles and be rewarded with the sight of this natural stunner.

Blackwater Falls

Feel the mist of the rushing water while immersed in an autumn oasis at Blackwater Falls State Park. The 57-foot Blackwater Falls is one of the tallest in the state and makes a perfect spot to look at Almost Heaven’s stunning fall colors. Don’t miss taking a selfie on the Almost Heaven Swing by the pathway leading to the falls.

Audra State Park

Audra State Park boasts stunning scenery in the fall. Alum Creek and Cave Trail is a 2.7-mile loop that This path leads guests under the impressive cliffside boardwalk along the rushing Middle Fork River, which is about to bloom with fall colors. You’ll see plenty of white sugar maple and other color-changing trees from multiple vantage points.
