2. Long Point Trail

In Fayette County near Fayetteville, this three-mile trail starts the Long Point Trail lot just off Newton Road and takes you through a peaceful wooded section. The trail is well-maintained and allows for an easy hike. Hike to the end, and your eyes are treated to a stunning New River Gorge Bridge view.


3. Beaver Dam Trail
Cabins, West Virginia
At Dolly Sods Wilderness, Beaver Dam Trail is the perfect trail for hikers who enjoy stunning views without needing to trek a daunting distance. At just 1.4 miles out and back, Beaver Dam Trail takes about 40 minutes to complete. The rocky and muddy terrain is perfect if you enjoy a challenge. Bring your friends, leash your dog and bring plenty of water for this beautiful journey.



4. Cranberry Bog Boardwalk
Hillsboro, West Virginia
Looking for a relaxing walk amidst West Virginia flowers and Cranberry Bog Boardwalk near Hillsboro is a great place for visitors looking for an easy hike. The boardwalk loop boasts an easy nine-foot elevation gain and measures at 0.6 miles long. You will also trek over some small creeks on your walk, adding some relaxing white noise to your experience in these wonderful wetlands.
Hiking Tip: Hike here in April and May, and you will reveal some of Almost Heaven’s most beautiful wildflowers.


5. Valley Falls via Rocky and Rhododendron Trail
Fairmont, West Virginia
Before embarking on the Rhododendron Trail, you’ll want to get your camera ready. This scenic trail is located in Valley Falls State Park and takes you near Valley Falls, a lively waterfall on the Tygart Valley River. This is a moderately challenging 4.1-mile loop trail. Make sure you take a break and enjoy the soothing sound of the waterfall and check in on the West Virginia Waterfall Trail!



6. Red Spruce Knob Trail
Monongahela National Forest
Explore new heights when you hike through the Monongahela National Forest’s Spruce Knob, one of West Virginia’s highest peaks at 4,863 feet. The 2.1-mile out-and-back Red Spruce Knob Trail is near Marlinton in Pocahontas County. In addition to its enchanting flora, this forest is home to abundant wildlife. After hiking alongside a wide array of amazing sights, loop around, and you’ll find the remains of an old fire tower. Snap a photo of your pup beside the towering structure and head on your way.
