North Bend State Park
Cairo, West Virginia
North Bend State Park near the town of Cairo is the perfect spot to go leaf peeping with its thick forested areas and wide variety of deciduous trees. Take a short fall foliage walk or bike along the 72-mile North Bend Rail Trail. Cast a reel along the fishing streams and extend your fall stay in a cozy lodge or cabin.
Coopers Rock State Forest
Bruceton Mills, West Virginia
Just 13 miles outside of Morgantown, Coopers Rock State Forest boasts more than 50 miles of hiking and biking trails – winding throughout the fall-filled forest. Get an unmatched view from the overlook above of the Cheat River. The overlook is just steps away from the visitor parking area and can be accessed via a short, stone path. You will pass an Almost Heaven Swing on your way there!
Oglebay
Wheeling, West Virginia
With a rich history in hospitality and golf, Oglebay in Wheeling is a staple in the Northern Panhandle of Almost Heaven. Now imagine all of that with a stunning fall backdrop in every direction. Enjoy more than 2,000 acres of this public park’s beautiful landscape. Gallop your way past wholesome hues on a guided horseback ride and take a short walk on the Falls Vista Trail to see Oglebay Falls, a stop on the West Virginia Waterfall Trail. Rail Explorers
Clay, West Virginia
Cruise through jaw-dropping fall foliage as you journey along the former Buffalo Creek & Gauley Railroad in a pedal-powered vehicle at Rail Explorers in Clay County. The 12-mile round trip follows the twists and turns of the creek through the magnificent forest, passing waterfalls, bridges and wildlife. You will even see a small waterfall along the way! Also, take a selfie on the Almost Heaven Swing after your ride.
Sunrise Carriage Trail

This 1.4-mile out-and-back trail is an easy steady incline looping around large rocks and steep drop-offs, boasting a beautiful view of the capital city of Charleston. Don’t miss a lovely autumn walk here as there are several shaded areas with plenty of color-changing trees.
