Each fall, dare-devil rafters run to Almost Heaven to take on the wild whitewater of Gauley Season for themselves. Beginning the weekend after Labor Day, Summersville Lake is partially drained into the Gauley River, creating world-class rapids that attract the most experienced rafters from all around the world.
This annual occurrence is one of the most sought-after events on the East Coast and lasting until late October, makes for an epic fall adventure where rafters can witness the jaw-dropping autumn hues lining the riverbanks.
