Blennerhassett Island Historical State Park

Turn back the clock and take a 20-minute sternwheel riverboat ride to Blennerhassett Island Historical State Park. Tour the replica of the original Palladian mansion from the 1800’s, bike round the island and hop on a horse-drawn carriage ride. Open from May until October, this spot is one of the most unique historical spots in the Mountain State. Don’t say goodbye without grabbing a photo on the Almost Heaven swing!

Beckley Exhibition Coal Mine

Take a trip through what once was an operating coal mine and learn the fascinating history of West Virginia’s booming coal industry at the Beckley Exhibition Coal Mine. Let veteran miners guide you through the past as you ride through the mine in a ‘man car’ that holds up to 35 people. Be sure to wear a jacket as the mine maintains a constant 58 degree temperature year round! After the tour, guests can explore the Coal Camp which includes a restored coal camp house, miner’s shanty, church, school and more. Harpers Ferry Historical National Park

Situated at the confluence of the Shenandoah and Potomac rivers, Harpers Ferry is home to some of the most gorgeous views and history-rich locations in West Virginia. Explore the streets of this town while making your way through some key moments of early American history. Visit the John Brown Wax Museum for a walk through John Brown’s life and learn more about his raid on Harpers Ferry in a building that was present at that very time. Berkeley Springs State Park

Hatfield Cemetery

The famous Hatfield-McCoy feud took place right here along the Tug Fork of West Virginia’s Big Sandy River from 1863 and 1891. Today, visitors from all over the world flock to the southern region of the state to go off-roading on the expansive Hatfield-McCoy Trail System. Overflowing in rich history, guests can traverse the very mountains where the famous feud took place. For even more history, stop by the Hatfield Family Cemetery which contains a life-size marble statue of Devil Anse Hatfield, marking his place of final rest.
