The Complete.Travel website offers a continually updated live feed of daily travel ideas and exciting things to do across the country and around the world, turning ownership into an active lifestyle—not a liability.

The anti-itinerary safari

For decades, all-inclusive safaris have followed the same schedule. Pre-dawn wake-up calls. Game drives that leave on time whether you’re ready or not. Structured mealtimes. Planned downtime. Communal meals. It’s a structure most accept as part of the deal. But what if that’s not the way a safari is meant to be enjoyed? As a born and bred South African, the safari holiday isn’t once-in-a-lifetime for me. It’s something of a routine. An annual, or even more frequent, event. And to be honest I’d never really questioned its structure. But during a recent stay at an ultra-luxury private villa in South Africa’s Madikwe Game Reserve, I experienced something that felt fundamentally different from any safari I’d done before. It wasn’t just more exclusive or more indulgent, it was freer. Unscripted. Almost deliberately anti-safari in the way it dismantled everything I’d come to expect. A safari without a schedule Sure, at some of South Africa’s biggest game reserves, you can self-drive, self-cater and set your own safari schedule. But if you’re after the trimmings that the quintessential all-inclusive safari offers then you’re pretty much bound by a daily schedule that isn’t your own. In the past it was ideal, expected even,

Delta pares back 2 new flights before they launch, adds 4 routes

Delta Air Lines is making some noteworthy updates to its network. To start, the Atlanta-based carrier is making two big adjustments in New York City, where it’s paring back service on two of its newest routes before they even launch. Delta no longer plans to fly from John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) to Memphis International Airport (MEM) and St. Louis Lambert International Airport (STL) during the winter season, as first seen in Cirium schedules and later confirmed by a carrier spokesperson. Bargain hunting: When is the best time to book flights for the cheapest airfare? Delta first announced these new routes in May as part of a broader expansion that includes service from JFK to Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) and from nearby LaGuardia Airport (LGA) to Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport (ECP) in Panama City, Florida. Airlines don’t often make major frequency and seasonal changes just before new routes take off, so demand seemingly hasn’t been as hot in these two markets as Delta would’ve expected. The good news is that Delta has already identified a replacement for one of these routes during the winter. The airline filed plans to launch daily flights from JFK to Sarasota

What to do if your checked bag is lost, damaged or delayed

I know the feeling all too well. You’ve just landed at the airport and are patiently waiting at the baggage belt as all the other travelers from your flight collect their luggage and leave. Eventually, the belt stops spinning, and reality hits: Your bag is lost or delayed. Or perhaps your bag does arrive, but it has a large gash in the side or is otherwise damaged beyond normal wear and tear. Either way, here’s what you should know if an airline damages, loses or temporarily delays your checked bag, including some things you should do before leaving the airport. Delayed, missing or lost luggage: Do this at the airport If your checked baggage doesn’t arrive at your destination airport, visit the airline’s luggage office or counter right away. Although some airlines may let you file a report within a set period after your arrival, I highly recommend doing so before leaving the airport. When filing the report, you’ll usually need to provide contact information (including a local phone number and lodging details), the baggage tags (take a photo before handing them over if the airline wants to keep them), and details about your luggage, such as its color, type
