Young women from around the state will compete for glory, glamour and the right to wear the coveted tiara during the Miss Florida Scholarship Competition and Miss Florida’s Outstanding Teen Competition at the RP Funding Center in Lakeland. Be a part of the grand tradition as the Annual Miss Florida Scholarship Competition and Miss Florida’s Outstanding Teen Competition return to the RP Funding Center’s Youkey Theatre June 26-29. Miss Florida Scholarship Competition The Miss Florida Scholarship Competition is a preliminary competition to the Miss America Competition which is the world’s largest provider of scholarship assistance for young women and one of the nation’s largest achievement programs. The reigning Miss Florida Juliette Valle won her title last June when she competed against other young women from throughout the state for the opportunity to represent the Sunshine State at Miss America. Miss Florida Preliminaries Both the The Miss Florida and Miss Florida’s Outstanding Teen Preliminaries will take place June 26-28 at 7:3o p.m.  The Finals for both take place on Saturday, June 29th at 3:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m, respectively. July 4: Independence Day in YorktownIndependence Day in Yorktown is a free family-friendly celebration featuring a full lineup of events leading up to the big fireworks finale! The morning starts at 8 a.m. with an 8K Run and 5K Walk followed by a patriotic parade along Water and Main Streets. Evening activities include a bell-ringing ceremony, patriotic concert, and an amazing firework display over the York River. July 4: Lights of FreedomA special event Lights of Freedom, prelude the thrilling Fourth of July Fireworks display, our holiday programming concludes with a celebration of the words and music of the American Revolution. Highlights include a reading of the Declaration of Independence, American marching music of the Revolution, and a patriotic sing-along culminating in a grand fireworks display at 9:30 p.m.
