Review: The Fish, Farncombe, Broadway, Worcestershire

The Fish Hotel is an inviting take on Scandi-cool-comfort and contemporary country living.  Delivering hygge for the Cotswolds, The Fish is an innovative country retreat, a rural playground of some 500 acres on the Gloucestershire and Worcestershire borders. Home to buzzards, deer and foxes, as well as weary urbanites and salivating foodies.  More rural community than hotel, The Fish’s collection of shepherds’ huts and treehouses is scattered amongst hillside banks of snowdrops and swathes of daffodils. Ponds glint in the spring sunshine, probably created centuries ago by monks to secure a regular supply of fish.  Blending adventure retreat, relaxed rural hideaway and gourmet experience, The Fish features Martin Burge’s restaurant, Hook. His fishy menus bring Cornwall to the Cotswolds.  The welcome The winding road through the estate’s acres, through beech and oaks, is long. Signs encourage doubting drivers, “You’re nearly there”, “Close” until they finally arrive at the timbered Lodge.  Check-in is relaxed and informal. The receptionist stands and chats with us as she enters a few last details on her lap top. No desks, no barriers. Then she guides us to our Shepherd’s Hut.  The Hideaway Hut A signpost to Titania, Fairy, Bottom, Snout et al signals that these Hideaway

Legendary Nevadans Part III: This One’s for the Ladies

This post was originally published on this siteThe post Legendary Nevadans Part III: This One’s for the Ladies appeared first on Travel Nevada. These leading ladies took the chance to go where no woman had gone before, and for that, they are our favorite firsts. In honor of Women’s History Month, we decided to feature a few of the women who figured prominently in the state’s history. From political firsts to a local sheriff, these women proved there were no bounds on their ambition or their impact on Nevada life. Nevada Historical Society Sadie Dotson Hurst Her Place was in the House (and Assembly) In 1918, a Reno newspaper noted Republican Assembly candidate Sadie Dotson Hurst “will stand her and the people of Nevada in good stead should she be elected to the assembly.” No woman had ever served in the Nevada Legislature, and in fact, women were not allowed to vote in state elections until 1916. But the voters agreed, and Hurst became a representative for the 1919 session. She was passionate about the Progressive movement, including Prohibition. Hurst’s successful bills included one that raised the age of consent from 16 to 18 years and increased the penalties for

Forget Taco Tuesday, Ron makes every day a Mexican food celebration!

Craving the sizzling flavors of Mexico? Read on for Ron’s Best Mexican food fix! Authentic dishes, vibrant atmosphere – it’s a fiesta for your tastebuds. By Ron Kirkland We started our day at Los Paisanos and knowing that I had a full day of food ahead of me, I ate a light dinner the night before and skipped breakfast. Fortunately, Los Paisanos is one of the few Mexican places that serve an authentic Mexican style breakfast. The beans, eggs and plantain were complemented by a thick homemade tortilla with homemade hot sauce and made for a unique way to start the day. Since I had my taco hat on, I decided that tacos six ways was in order. In particular, the Chorizo Taco had me wanting more. In all, this place is my sleeper pick and very underrated. Mayor Doug Pons decided to join us at Taqueria Maria Bonita. To celebrate the occasion we opted for the Cantarito Jalisco, a remarkably interesting tequila-based cocktail served in a clay pot and garnished with a sweet and spicy tamarind straw that I simply kept reaching for, which is always a good sign. The stuffed pineapple and huaraches are favorites, and they did
