The power of three: Why there are no wrong choices in Les 3 Vallées

This post was originally published on this siteLes 3 Vallées boasts the world’s largest linked ski area, encompassing three distinct resorts, each with its own DNA. In the morning, you can be a downhill racer at Val Thorens, for lunch you can hobknob with celebs at Courchevel, and in the afternoon you can cruise some easy runs, family-style at Méribel.  Why go? For one, you’re skiing in the French Alps! Secondly, for my fellow US skiers, your lift ticket is a bargain. Skiing Val Thorens rather than, say, Vail, Colorado, you’re saving over $200 a day. With a slight upcharge to access Méribel and Courchevel too, you’re getting 600 km of groomed “pistes” in comparison to Vail’s 234 km of groomed “runs.” Decisions, decisions… So you’ve decided to ski Les 3 Vallées. The challenge is to decide which resort of the three–Val Thorens, Courchevel, or Méribel, to make home base.  Below, I’ve teased out one word that describes each resort and what is new for 2026 regarding getting people up the mountain (for getting down, you’re on your own). I’ve mentioned one new hotel and one new restaurant for each resort.  Val Thorens: High altitude, higher octane Val Thorens is

Delta adds Hong Kong, new Chicago service in big LA expansion

This post was originally published on this site While it’s been rumored for a few days, Delta Air Lines will officially commence service to Hong Kong next year. The airline announced Wednesday that it’ll start flying from its hub at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) to Hong Kong International Airport (HKG) on June 6, 2026. Delta will deploy its flagship Airbus A350-900 on the new 7,260-mile route. The aircraft is configured with 40 Delta One Suites, 40 Premium Select recliners, 36 Comfort+ extra-legroom seats and 159 standard economy seats. Delta will offer 30 one-stop connection options for travelers from across North America looking to get to and from Hong Kong. Best airlines report 2025: Delta tops TPG’s rankings for 7th straight year Interestingly, this isn’t Delta’s first foray into Hong Kong. The airline last served the market in 2018 with nonstop service from Seattle, but it pulled out at the time due to weak demand and other factors. While the airline has been busy in recent years growing its transpacific connectivity from Seattle, Hong Kong service will return from Los Angeles. This is an interesting move, especially since United Airlines and hometown carrier Cathay Pacific already offer plenty of flights

TSA liquids rule: Is it next to go after the shoes policy ended?

This post was originally published on this site Imagine walking through airport security with a full water or shampoo bottle you brought from home without getting stopped. After the Transportation Security Administration ended its unpopular and long-standing shoe-removal policy last week, travelers have rightly wondered: Could an end to the TSA’s limits on liquids be next? I’ve taken that question to higher-ups at the TSA many times over the years, including to its top leader last fall. Yes … the long-term plan is to end “3-1-1.” But when that might happen is another story. Read more: ‘Game-changer’ alternative to Global Entry now available at 8 US airports this summer Shoe-removal is history — what about 3-1-1? The TSA announced the end to the nearly 19-year-old shoes-off policy for passengers passing through its checkpoints, and leaders at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security cited improved technology since the agency first enacted the rule in August 2006 as a reason for the change. But the TSA made no changes to its crackdown on liquids, which started that same summer, in the wake of a second thwarted terror attempt on a separate flight. How to use the Amex Platinum digital entertainment credit

This post was originally published on this site The Platinum Card® from American Express is a top-tier premium travel rewards card with a $695 annual fee (see rates and fees). At first glance, the annual fee can be intimidating, but the good news is that the plethora of lifestyle-oriented benefits helps cardholders justify keeping the Amex Platinum in their wallets since these perks offset the hefty annual fee. Let’s explore a useful benefit of the Amex Platinum: the monthly statement credit toward eligible digital entertainment subscriptions. What is the Amex Platinum digital entertainment credit? The Amex Platinum offers up to $240 in “digital entertainment” statement credits annually, spread out in monthly $20 increments (enrollment is required, terms apply). You can use these credits for the following subscriptions: Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+ — or a Disney+ Bundle (which includes up to all three services) Peacock The New York Times The Wall Street Journal AMERICAN EXPRESS American Express periodically changes the services this statement credit covers, so pay close attention to the list of covered subscriptions. In the past, we saw services such as Sirius XM radio. How to use the Amex Platinum digital entertainment credit Before using this perk, you must

A ‘green flag’ for travel? Deal-seekers see hope amid uneven demand for flights

This post was originally published on this site After months of economic jitters and concerns about travel demand, Delta Air Lines last week shared reason to be optimistic. The Atlanta-based carrier beat Wall Street expectations with its financial performance during the second quarter of 2025. But it’s not necessarily a bellwether for the rest of the travel sector … or the broader economy. A Delta Air Lines aircraft at the gate. CLINT HENDERSON/THE POINTS GUY Reasons for concern … and optimism All spring, airlines sounded alarm bells about a travel spending pullback amid souring consumer sentiment. Flight cuts ensued, and airlines pulled financial guidance they’d offered just months earlier. Still, the summer brought signs of hope. Summer crowds haven’t let up Six of the 10 busiest days ever at U.S. airports have come since Memorial Day weekend, according to Transportation Security Administration checkpoint data. That includes the all-time single-day passenger record June 22 — a day that was busier for air travel than the Sunday after Thanksgiving last year.
