Avios travel trends for 2026: Predictions, strategies, and best redemption opportunities

Frequent flyer programmes are evolving quickly, and the Avios ecosystem is no exception. Used across multiple airlines including British Airways, Iberia and Qatar Airways, Avios has become one of the most flexible and dominant loyalty currencies in the world. As we move further into 2026, travellers using Avios to book reward seats on flights are likely to encounter a mix of opportunity and change. Airlines are growing and refining loyalty programmes at a rapid pace – adjusting award pricing, and experimenting with new reward seat redemption models. British Airways and Iberia, for example, both revamped numerous elements of their Avios Club loyalty programs in 2025, including earning rates and status levels. At the same time, demand for premium travel continues to grow, as earning and spending Avios points becomes more accessible to all.  Understanding the key trends shaping Avios reward travel is a key part of my work (and a personal hobby). Here I impart some of my knowledge and predictions, to help other travellers extract maximum value from their points in the year ahead. The continued shift toward dynamic reward pricing One of the most important trends I have spotted in the last two years affecting Avios redemptions is

Deal alert: Get up to 40% off British Airways economy award flights to Europe

British Airways Club just announced a potentially generous redemption sale offering up to 40% off the Avios cost of World Traveller economy-class redemptions between the U.S. and Europe via London. Note that the fees, taxes and surcharges required are not discounted; however, with British Airways’ Reward Flight Saver redemptions, you can reduce the cash payment required to very reasonable levels. Unfortunately, finding these discounts isn’t straightforward, as they are not clearly marked, so you’ll have to do a bit of digging, but it could be well worth it to save thousands of Avios on your next trip to Europe. Here’s what you need to know to fly to Europe for as little as 15,000 Avios each way. Breeze adds 5 new cities and 7 routes, fills void from Avelo’s West Coast exit

Breeze Airways announced a major West Coast expansion Thursday, bringing service to five new cities and launching seven new routes. The airline will start flying to Hollywood Burbank Airport (BUR) and California Redwood Coast-Humboldt County Airport (ACV) in California; Redmond Municipal Airport (RDM) near Bend and Eugene Airport (EUG) in Oregon; and Tri-Cities Airport (PSC) in Pasco, Washington. Service to the new cities will begin in March 2026. “With an expanded West Coast presence that connects travelers to our broader nationwide network, Breeze’s service will bring even more options and convenience to these underserved communities,” Breeze founder and CEO David Neeleman said in a statement. Best airlines report 2025: Delta tops TPG’s rankings for 7th straight year The timing of Thursday’s announcement was notable: Rival startup Avelo Airlines just announced plans to end its West Coast presence and will completely exit some of the same markets that Breeze plans to enter, including Burbank, Eugene, Redmond, Redwood Coast-Humboldt County and Tri-Cities. Avelo has struggled in recent months, even as Breeze has seen its first profitable quarters since launching in 2021. Avelo has also faced backlash for operating deportation flights from the U.S. for Immigration and Customs Enforcement — critics launched an

Bunkhouse Hotels is officially joining World of Hyatt in phases

World of Hyatt members can now start earning and redeeming rewards at some Bunkhouse Hotels as the company continues to integrate the boutique brand in phases. As of Thursday, Hotel Saint Cecilia (a Category 7 hotel) and Hotel Saint Augustine (a Category 6 hotel) have been fully integrated into Hyatt’s loyalty program, the hotel group shared with TPG. On July 23, Hyatt said it plans to add three Category 5 hotels — Hotel San Jose, the Austin Motel and the Carpenter Hotel — followed Aug. 6 by Hotel San Cristobal (a Category 7 hotel) and Hotel San Fernando (a Category 4 hotel). The Hotel Daphne, which is expected to open in Houston in the fall, will also be integrated into World of Hyatt when it does. The full integration is being completed in phases after Hyatt acquired Standard International in late 2024 (which includes The Standard Hotels, Bunkhouse Hotels, Peri Hotels, The StandardX and The Manner). Several other properties, including The Standard, Bangkok Mahanakhon; The Standard, High Line; The Standard, Hua Hin; The Standard, Singapore; and The StandardX, Melbourne have already been added to the loyalty program. Going forward, travelers who stay at participating Bunkhouse Hotels will receive: 5 base

Midyear update: How 7 TPG staffers are earning United Premier status in 2025

United Airlines Premier status is popular with many TPG readers, so it’s no surprise several TPG staffers are also striving for status in the United MileagePlus program this year. Whether you’re already working toward qualifying or requalifying for a United Premier status tier or considering whether doing so is right for you, this story is for you. I’ll start by giving an overview of United elite status — including its perks and the requirements for each tier — before discussing what TPG staffers shared about their approach to United elite status this year. United Premier status overview I highly recommend checking out our guide to United Premier status for all the details about benefits and the best ways to earn United status. But, especially since many of the TPG staffers highlighted in this story discuss their progress toward earning United Premier status, here’s an overview of the requirements you must reach within each calendar year. Note that for each tier, you can qualify either on a combination of Premier qualifying flights and Premier qualifying points, or solely via PQPs, as follows: Premier Silver: 15 PQFs and 5,000 PQPs, or 6,000 PQPs Premier Gold: 30 PQFs and 10,000 PQPs, or 12,000
