Hit the Trails
The Hatfield-McCoy Trail System is composed of over 1,000 miles of rideable terrain, has options for skill levels of all kinds and is open 365 days a year. Explore some of West Virginia’s most beautiful backcountry on your own machine or easily find one for rent. Discover trails suitable for ATVs, dirt bikes, UTVs and even ORVs. Cruise right into ATV-friendly towns to refuel, browse unique shops and dine on made-from-scratch, Appalachian meals.
For a unique ride, traverse Pocahontas Trail in Mercer County and venture into the town of Bramwell. Home to beautiful, well-preserved Victorian and Tudor-style mansions, this spot was once home to the most millionaires per capita of any town in the country.
More Opportunities for Adventure
Check out the Adventure Zone at Pipestem Resort State Park, home to an unbelievable amount of competitive fun. Take on a game of laser tag, disc golf, axe throwing, miniature golf, drive remote control cars, fly drones or shoot your shot at the 3D archery range. Located on the border of Mercer and Summers Counties, this park is a must-visit.
While in the area, experience a nostalgic, night-on-the-town feel with a trip to the Pipestem Drive-In Theater. Cars haven’t stopped rolling in since the first movie was shown here in 1972. Buttery popcorn, soft pretzels, hot dogs and nachos are among the concession favorites. Set up your lawn chairs or relax on the bed of your truck.
End your trip with a sunset photo on the new Almost Heaven swing at East River Mountain Overlook, one of West Virginia’s most Instagrammable views.
