The month of August is full of fun and exciting events all across Greater Williamsburg. Whether you’re searching for family-friendly events, food and drink events, live music or free festivals, you’ll have plenty of options to choose. Here are our top events happening in Williamsburg during August.
Aug. 1, 8, 15: Sounds of Summer Concert Series
Break out those dancing shoes, and join us all summer long for free outdoor concerts by the beautiful York River! Yorktown’s Sounds of Summer concert series runs Thursday nights from 6:30 to 9 p.m. through August 15. We’ve got bands playing beach music, country, jazz, R&B, popular hits, and so much more! Before the entertainment begins, visitors are encouraged to arrive early and enjoy dinner or dessert at any of Historic Yorktown’s waterfront restaurants including Water Street Grille, Carrot Tree, Umi Sushi, Ben & Jerry’s, and Yorktown Pub.
Aug. 16-Sept. 2: Bier Fest at Busch Gardens®
Get a taste of Germany at Busch Gardens Williamsburg’s annual Bier Fest. Bier Fest is an Oktoberfest celebration where you can sample traditional German food, listen to live music and more at this Bavarian celebration. This three-week festival takes place on weekends at the park and features over 100 beers on tap during the festival.
Aug. 31: Virginia Symphony Concert
Enjoy a magical night under the stars as the Virginia Symphony Orchestra returns to Riverwalk Landing. Pack a picnic, bring a lawn chair or blanket, and listen to the beautiful music of this award-winning symphony. The Fifes and Drums of York Town will perform at the beginning of this event.
This free concert is presented by the Celebrate Yorktown Committee of the Yorktown Foundation with generous support from York County, York County Arts Commission, and the Virginia Commission for the Arts, as well as community contributors from organizations, businesses, and individuals. The volunteer-run Celebrate Yorktown Committee works diligently to raise the money needed to cover the costs of this special evening.
