Your Fall Guide to Exploring Pipestem Resort State Park in West Virginia

Fall in West Virginia is unlike anywhere else with its rolling hills and scenic wilderness. Pipestem Resort State Park is no exception to that and boats more adventures than you could ever imagine. From thrilling zip line tours to relaxing horseback rides, this West Virginia State Park has multiple ways to win your heart.

This fall, go on an adventure and consider these wholesome activities to explore Pipestem Resort State Park to the fullest.

Aerial Tours

If you love leaf peeping and heights, then you’ll love aerial tours here. Take in some of the most breathtaking views of Almost Heaven as you tour the treetops with Pipestem Peaks Zipline Tours. The Tour begins at the top of the Canyon Rim Center and works its way down to the bottom of Bluestone Gorge. The zip line trip consists of nine different zip lines, a cable bridge and a belay system – which lasts about 3.5 hours and ends at Mountain Creek Lodge. Four of the zips range from 1,000 to 1,700 feet in length, and you will zip from tree to tree at speeds up to 50 miles per hour!

Rock Climbing & Rappelling

Reach new heights with shades of reds, yellows and oranges as your backdrop! Reach for the peak of the rock mountaintop that overlooks the Bluestone Gorge below with a guided rock climbing tour. Certified guides are on staff to teach you the skills needed to summit the rock. All necessary climbing gear is included, along with a drink and snacks.

Waterfall Chasing

Just a few miles north of Pipestem Resort State Park along Route 20, Pipestem Falls is a hidden gem. This waterfall has a 30+ foot drop on Pipestem Creek. Follow the wooden steps by the pull-off and let the roaring waters guide the way, as the fall leaves may hide the cascade from the road. Be sure to check into this waterfall on the West Virginia Waterfall Trail for a chance to win prizes!

Breathtaking Views

Take in a stunning view of Pipestem by venturing to the top of the Bolar Lookout Tower. This is the perfect place to capture the beautiful fall hues and the surrounding wilderness. Only a short and easy hike out a paved road, this lookout is as convenient as it is breathtaking.

Bike Rides

Exploring on two wheels is a must-try at Pipestem. You can either rent a traditional mountain bike or try out an E-bike. Bikes are available for hourly rental or can be included in the Adventure Zone Day Pass at the Pipestem Adventure Zone. Enjoy hearing the fall leaves crunch underneath your tires, and let the miles climb!

Horseback Riding

Saddle up and immerse yourself in the natural splendor of the fall season in West Virginia with a scenic horseback ride. Choose your desired trip with options ranging from half-hour trail rides to overnight camp out. Pony rides and hay rides are also available for the kids.

Hitting the Green

Take in beautiful views of the Bluestone Canyon as you tee off on the Championship 18 Hole Golf Course designed by the renowned Geoffrey Cornish. If you want to bring the whole family together, nothing does it better than a match of mini golf during the fall. Take on the challenges of the 18-hole course on display in an engaging West Virginia-themed course.

Skeet Shooting

Have good aim? Sight in your shotgun and set your aim as the clay pigeon targets are launched overhead. Shoot as many as you can with a round of 25 shells. Guides will assist with safety procedures and rentals. Guests are also free to bring their own equipment.

Laser Tag

If you’re looking for some indoor thrills after exploring the fall foliage, get together with your friends and play some rounds of award-winning laser tag. This warehouse area was transformed into a futuristic battlefield with black lights illuminating a universe of fluorescent colors. Hide behind barriers and climb over obstacles to help your team come out on top.

Extend Your Stay

To make room for a few more adventures on your fall itinerary at Pipestem Resort State Park, rest your head at McKeever Lodge.
