China Airlines eyes Boston, DC as US expansion options for new planes

Taiwan’s China Airlines is eyeing significant U.S. expansion as it takes delivery of new long-haul jets in the coming years. The SkyTeam Alliance carrier is considering adding Boston Logan International Airport (BOS), Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX) and Dulles International Airport (IAD) to its map, Chen Han-Ming, president of China Airlines, said at an event at New York City’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) on Monday. Before China Airlines adds new markets, however, the airline will add more flights to some of its largest North American gateways, including JFK, Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA), Chen added. When to go: These are the best times to buy an international flight “As we continue to receive new aircraft, we will keep evaluating opportunities to add new routes or increase flight frequencies based on market demand,” he said. China Airlines had 55 passenger planes — including 10 Airbus A350-1000s, 10 Boeing 777-9s and 24 Boeing 787s — on firm order at the beginning of June, an investor presentation shows. At least 16 aircraft will be used to replace older Airbus A330-300s. Chen was in New York to announce China Airlines’ decision to move to the new

How to use the Chase Sapphire Reserve $300 annual travel credit to save on travel

Editor’s note: This is a recurring post, regularly updated with new information and offers. Amid multiple changes to the [applyLink pid=”221211836″ overridetext=”Chase Sapphire Reserve®”] (see [termsConditions pid=”221211836″ overridetext=”rates and fees”]) in its recent refresh, a marquee benefit remained unchanged: its $300 annual travel credit. Unlike similar perks on competing cards, this credit is incredibly easy to use for all sorts of travel. The Chase Sapphire Reserve charges a $795 annual fee. But if you spend at least $300 per year on travel, the effective annual fee becomes more palatable. This annual credit is in addition to other Sapphire Reserve perks, such as Chase Sapphire Lounge access and a Priority Pass membership, a biannual credit to use toward The Edit (minimum two-night stay required), Chase’s premium collection of more than 1,000 properties bookable via Chase Travel℠, and multiple lifestyle credits, all of which help offset the high annual fee. So, how exactly do you use the Sapphire Reserve’s travel credit? Thankfully, it’s really, really easy. The (sort of) bad news? It’s so simple and automatic that you may use the credit before you even realize it. When do you earn the $300 Chase Sapphire Reserve travel credit? Shoes stay on? TSA could soon roll back its longtime policy

Passengers departing from some U.S. airports may soon be able to leave their shoes on at security checkpoints — whether they have TSA PreCheck access or not. The Transportation Security Administration is beginning to phase out its long-standing policy that required most travelers to remove their shoes for security screening, multiple outlets reported, citing sources briefed on the matter. The change would reportedly begin at a select number of airports. The TSA has not officially announced the change. Asked by TPG on Monday, a spokesperson did not confirm — or deny — a shift on the agency’s shoes-off policy is in the works, noting that it’s “always exploring new and innovative ways to enhance the passenger experience and our strong security posture.” “Any potential updates to our security process will be issued through official channels,” the agency added. Read more: We went through security at airports across the country on Day 1 of Real ID: What you can expect The TSA has required most passengers to remove their shoes for screening since August 2006, as a way to better screen for explosives. Concerns about the security threat of passenger footwear largely date back to a 2001 failed terror plot by

How to maximize award redemptions with the IHG One Rewards program

Editor’s note: This is a recurring post, regularly updated with new information and offers. IHG One Rewards isn’t as well-loved in the points and miles community as programs like Hilton Honors and World of Hyatt. But IHG hotels and resorts are available in many destinations, and it’s easy to get good value when redeeming IHG points. Earning IHG points is also relatively easy. For example, new [applyLink pid=”6799″ overridetext=”IHG One Rewards Traveler Credit Card”] (see [termsConditions pid=”6799″ overridetext=”rates and fees”]) applicants can earn 120,000 bonus points after spending $2,000 on purchases in the first three months from account opening when they apply by July 23.
