Fall is the perfect time of the year to take a picture of the oranges, reds and yellows that paint the mountains. Access to the forest is easy as it’s located just outside of downtown Morgantown and within Mountaineer Country. Dolly Sods Wilderness Elkins, WV With more than 17,300 acres, Dolly Sods Wilderness provides a stunning scenery with elevation changes of more than 2,000 feet. This region is located within the Monongahela National Forest and is part of the National Wilderness Preservation System. Dolly Sods can get chilly with elevations surpassing 4,700 feet

Enjoy a snack, sit down and take a break in the stone hut or snag a photo on one of the new Almost Heaven swings. Thorny Mountain Fire Tower Find yourself feeling like you’re in a dream when standing in the Thorny Mountain Fire Tower, nestled in solitude, surrounded by Seneca State Forest. Standing 65 feet high, this structure provides jaw-dropping panoramic sights of the sunrise and sunset. Even more amazing, guests are able to book the fire tower for an overnight stay.
